Renewable energy, electric vehicles and heat pumps decarbonize the energy sector. At the same time, they are new grid users, which make the electricity grid planning increasingly complex. They make the electricity supply and demand increase and more volatile. If lacking grid capacity makes it impossible to connect the new grid users to the grid, the decarbonisation of the energy sector is at risk. Regulation on the proactive grid development planning, a network tariff design that ensures cost reimbursement and grid access guarantees tackles these challenges. The differences in the decarbonisation of the energy sector and the electricity grid make the EU member states choose different regulatory measures.
The Business Unit Demand Response and Smart Grids in the Competence Center Energy Technology and Energy Systems maps the situation in the member states, identifies best practices and develops policy recommendations. The Business Unit is looking for a student assistant for supporting these activities. In particular, the student assistant executes desk research on the status quo of the new grid users and the electricity grid, as well as the regulation on grid planning, grid access and network tariff design, identifies relevant stakeholders and support stakeholder interviews and surveys.

The work as a student assistant can lay the basis for a following bachelor or master thesis.
