Intern Space Debris modelling (m/f/d)
Dark and quite skies: satellite brightness modelling and assessment Dark nights are crucial for observing and studying the sky because they provide the best conditions to distinguish celestial objects. Without interference from light pollution, the contrast between the objects and the background sky is maximized, allowing observers to detect even faint light signals. Several new satellite constellations are leading to interference with the astronomy observation. Indeed, brighter satellites can disrupt scientific observations by creating streaks or bright spots in telescope images. To counter these effects, the latest space debris requirements released by ESA oblige the satellite developer to quantify the visual brightness of its satellite design. The apparent magnitude of a satellite can be computed from the satellite irradiance radio with respect to the solar illumination irradiance.

- Enhance existing ESA mitigation solutions with other propositions
- Propose and develop a new method for assessing satellite brightness
- Identify the materials parameters needed for such an assessment and if possible, build such a database or check possible testing approaches
- The method should be based on ray-tracing with the satellite geometry and materials or any other method
Assess one or two OHB satellites brightness
