We, the BMW Group, offer you an interesting and varied master's thesis in the area of AI perception and radiance field reconstructions for autonomous driving. State-of-the-art deep neural networks are used for perception tasks, for example, semantic segmentation. For 3D reconstruction and novel view synthesis, AI-based radiance field reconstructions can be used to reconstruct the environment. Both techniques can be combined to create specialized reconstructions of the environment. 

What awaits you? 

  • Close collaboration in a team within the BMW research department. 
  • Transformation of vehicle sensor data to 3D reconstructed maps with meta information automatically gathered from these reconstructions. 
  • Generate novel views with augmented meta information using radiance fields and other techniques. 
  • You will develop new approaches for autonomous driving perception simulations. 

Please note that your thesis must be supervised by a university on your part. 

What should you bring along? 

  • Strong knowledge in machine learning. 
  • Knowledge in computer vision, familiarity with Neural Radiance fields or Gaussian Splatting is a plus. 
  • Strong programming skills. 
  • Proficiency with Python and deep learning frameworks (PyTorch or TensorFlow). 
  • Good English communication skills.
