Internship in the field of software-in-the-loop development for the simulation of plug-in hybrid vehicles from October 2024

The plug-in hybrid vehicles (EQ Power) represent a significant contribution to ever more efficient and sustainable mobility at Mercedes-Benz. They combine a purely electric driving experience on daily commutes with an efficient combustion engine drive on longer journeys. The development of electrified powertrains presents a particular challenge due to their complexity, which combines many exciting topics from the field of electromobility with those of conventional drive systems. As part of this internship, you will gain insights into both the innovative technology of electric drives with high-voltage batteries and that of conventional combustion engine drives.

You will work in our operating strategy team, which is mainly responsible for the functional development of the operating strategy software in the vehicle and for the application and release in Mercedes hybrid vehicles. We are a motivated team that has been supported for years by interns, graduates and doctoral students. In this team, we combine scientific research topics with practical series development, using prototype vehicles, (roller) test benches and the possibilities of simulation tools.

These are some of the challenges you will face:

• Carrying out simulation calculations using software-in-the-loop
• Implementation of various test cases with regard to operating strategy in an SiL testing tool chain
• Analyzing the results from the SiL testing tool chain and categorizing the errors
• Revising the test cases together with colleagues from the application
• Further development of the simulation model
• Comparison of the simulation environment with vehicle measurements from test drives and test bench tests
• Analysis of simulation results & development of automated evaluation logic

• Degree in automotive engineering, mechatronics, electrical engineering, computer science or a comparable course of study
• Experience with modelling, simulation or optimization advantageous
• Knowledge of Matlab / Simulink desirable
• Confident handling of MS Office
• Confident written and spoken German and English skills
• Commitment and ability to work in a team
• Analytical mindset and strategic way of working
