Jülich: Master thesis - Fabrication, Characterization and Optimization of Magnetic Micro-Actuators
Jetzt bewerbenStellenbeschreibung
At the Jülich Centre for Neutron Science – Quantum Materials and Collective Phenomena (JCNS-2), we develop and use scattering methods to determine structural and magnetic order and excitations in novel quantum, nano and functional materials in order to achieve an understanding of macroscopic properties and functionalities. In collaboration with a world leading biotechnology company in the region we aim to study the magnetic properties of ferrofluidic magnetic micro-actuators and to optimize them for their application in cancer research.
Your Job:
This Master thesis project provides a unique opportunity to contribute to the further development of an established magnetic micro-actuator with direct applications in cancer research. The project is a collaboration between a world leading industrial partner and the Forschungszentrum Jülich. The industrial training will expose the student to cleanroom microfabrication techniques used to manufacture complex MEMS devices. The second part will be to systematically analyze and optimize the performance of the magnetic micro-actuator by investigating the influence of: geometry, alloy composition, crystallographic orientation, magnetization, magnetic anisotropy, and environment. By combining fabrication, experimental testing, and numerical modelling, you will develop both a fundamental understanding of magnetic micro-actuator physics and practical skills for MEMS device engineering.
Your Profile:
- You are studying physics, chemistry, materials science, nanoscience, nanotechnology or a related subject at a university
- You seek a cutting-edge application-oriented project for your Master thesis and/or your Specialization Phase
- You have an interest and ideally also previous knowledge in the field of nanotechnology, nanoscience, physical chemistry, condensed matter physics and ideally also previous knowledge in nanofabrication and magnetometry
- Independent and responsible way of working, commitment, high degree of teamwork, as well as enjoyment of cooperative collaboration
- You have a very good command of written and spoken English (at least B2 level according to the CEFR: https://go.fzj.de/languagerequirements )
