Are you interested in a career in international research organisations? Do you wish to focus your career in research management or the organisation and development of training programmes? If so we are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, highly motivated intern to join the ARISE Fellowship programme team. The ARISE Fellowship is a unique programme that looks to train experienced researchers and technology developers for future careers in research infrastructures. We hire fellows for three years at one of EMBL’s six sites where they work on a technology or method development project of their choice as part of one of the EMBL groups and teams. In parallel, we organise a unique training that teaches them how to run scientific services and manage teams, how to support users, manage their projects, and promote innovation. When fellows leave, we expect that they will be qualified to take a senior position in core facilities, service teams, big research infrastructures, technology development groups in academia, industry, healthcare, or other sectors, or start their own service providing enterprise.
As an ARISE Intern you will support the Programme Manager and the 40 ARISE fellows. This is an intern position, and as such we expect you to be willing to take direction, ask questions and be eager to learn. In return, we will work with you to expand your skill-set and gain invaluable experience for your CV. You will gain experience in:
- Programme administration in an Intergovernmental Organisation.
- Exposure to the management of large European Commission-funded grants.
- Communications in a life science setting and developing content for a range of audiences.
- Training programme development.
- Event planning.
Your role
- Support daily operation of the programme management, including correspondence and communication with internal and external participants, documentation and record keeping, preparation of presentations and reports, organisation of events and activities, handling reimbursement administration, aspects of event planning for the annual ARISE summer school.
- Help with the promotion of ARISE, using our website and social media to highlight the achievements of our fellows.
- Maintain and improve internal communication activities with EMBL group leaders and fellows in ARISE, develop and circulate materials, general updates and collect feedback.
- Help with organisation of ARISE training activities: on site courses, webinars, travels of fellows and trainers, reimbursement of costs.
- Support general organisation of the meetings and write minutes and summaries.
You have
- University degree.
- Motivation to contribute to the improvements of life sciences and better training and career chances for the new generations.
- Good communication skills with a variety of stakeholders.
- Experience or interest in developing an existing Wordpress website, training available.
- Attention to detail and good time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a proactive manner on a number of tasks in parallel alongside consistent communication with colleagues.
- Fluency in English in writing and speaking.
- Interest in a career in science communication, or project management.
- Advanced knowledge of frequently used office software, e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Google Drive (Docs, Sheets, Slides), Wordpress.
- A background in life sciences.
