The Applied Machine Learning (AML) group is part of the Department for Artificial Intelligence and is looking for a student research assistant to strengthen scientific activities in the context of interdisciplinary cooperation. In the AML working group, we are researching and developing new innovative solutions for current and future key topics. What you will do
Testing new generative deep learning architectures for weather applications
Analysis and preprocessing of climate- and weather data modalities, such as time series, image data, texts- and numeric data, especially remote sensing or radar data
Participating in projects related to early warning systems of extreme weather events
Orchestration and documentation of Deep Learning experiments
Exploration of explainable AI methods to identify drivers of weather events
Processing and visualization of large amounts of data
Review of relevant literature and data
Testing software and frameworks
What you bring to the table
Study of mathematics, computer science, physics, engineering or similar with good to very good grades
Strong programming skills in Python with knowledge of frameworks such as NumPy, Pytorch, Pandas etc
Experience and confidence in using Linux (Ubuntu) via terminal
Advanced knowledge in Machine Learning
Motivated in writing clean and tidy code (implementation, testing, documentation, versioning with git)
Affinity for technologies
Curiosity about a deeper understanding of Deep Learning architectures
Interest in the intersection of AI and climate science

The position is initially limited to 1 year. An extension is explicitly desired.
The monthly working time is 80 hours. This position is also available on a part-time basis.
