Student assistant (f/m/d) in the field of laser polishing of glass materials
Jetzt bewerbenStellenbeschreibung
The Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT is Europe's leading centre for contract research and development in the field of laser technology. Among other things, the Functional Coatings and Surfaces competence centre focuses on the laser polishing of glass materials. In this process, a thin surface layer of the glass component is melted with the help of CO2 laser radiation. The surface tension applied smoothes the roughness peaks by redistributing the material. Compared to conventional mechanical processes, this not only saves material but also significantly shortens the process time. In addition, the laser polishing process is largely independent of the surface geometry and can also be used for complex free-form optics of the latest generation or 3D printed components in a cost- and time-efficient manner. Requirements for roughness in the sub-nanometre range and shape deviations in the sub-micrometre range are not uncommon in the optics industry. In order to meet these high requirements, the Fraunhofer ILT is researching methods to increase the process stability of laser polishing and the active correction of the glass surface through nanometre ablation in laser beam figuring. In addition, there is the ongoing task of expanding the range of materials suitable for laser polishing.
