At the Fraunhofer IPT in Aachen, we work with more than 530 employees every day to make the production of the future more digital, more flexible and more sustainable.
The fourth industrial revolution is increasing the flexibility of industrial production and optimizing it by linking traditional production with new technologies such as IoT sensors, edge and cloud systems. This heterogeneous system requires effective orchestration that can schedule the application on these systems. While traditional scheduling algorithms exist, these do not focus on the energy footprint of applications. The aim is to implement algorithms for the orchestrator scheduler that consider the application requirements and heterogeneous energy consumption. These algorithms will be deployed to reduce the overall energy footprint.
What you will do
- Research various algorithms suitable for energy aware scheduling
- Develop a custom algorithm for energy awareness scheduling
- Perform experiments and evaluate performance metrics for scheduling
- Integrate APIs to receive node rankings for scheduling
- Integrate the system with a custom orchestrator
- Validate the system with the architecture
What you bring to the table
- You are studying electronics, computer science, information technology or a comparable subject
- You have initial experience with application development (python, c++)
- Knowledge on Kubernetes, docker advantageous
- A high degree of initiative and team spirit
- Good language skills in German and/or English
