In cooperation with the Chair for Laser Technology at RWTH LLT, the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT, Europe's leading center for contract research and development in the field of laser technology, is offering the opportunity to write a thesis in the ‘Laser Powder Bed Fusion’ department on surface technology and shape ablation.
Modern laser processes, such as selective laser-induced etching (SLE), are used to produce high-precision glass components for the semiconductor industry, medical technology or quantum technology with detailed dimensions
What you will do
- You will familiarise yourself with the topic of ‘Processing transparent materials with USP laser radiation’
- You plan the independent execution of experiments on the SLE laser processing system
- Stress measurements with the help of polarisation contrast microscopy is part of your responsibility
- You will be responsible for developing a suitable process strategy for the production of 3-dimensional sapphire components
- The evaluation, processing and presentation of your results is also important
