We are looking for a student to support the EU SoliDAIR project for at least one year. The current task involves optimizing an image classification model with highly imbalanced datasets for deployment in a partner’s production system. The project includes implementing explainable AI tools under development. Key challenges are class imbalance and data scarcity, which will be mitigated through synthetic data generation.
What you will do
The candidate should be eager to learn new skills. Responsibilities include data preprocessing (in any preferred language or Python), model performance analysis (including visualization), and documentation of methods and results.
What you bring to the table
Strong Python skills; knowledge of PyTorch is a plus. Familiarity with C++ or Rust makes transitioning to Python easy.
What you can expect
This project provides insight into handling data imbalance and scarcity in image analysis with deep learning, commonly encountered in industrial applications. Additionally, you will gain experience to explainable AI, a critical tool for understanding deep learning model behavior, and gain hands-on experience in deep learning model deployment.
The weekly working time is 39 hours. This position is also available on a part-time basis.
