About you and this role:
We are looking for you, an ambitious Master student, to support our Mobility and Transportation Electronics by doing an internship project in “How Do Alcohols Have Influence on the Properties of Silicone Foams for Batter Fire Protection Applications?” for our location in Wiesbaden, Germany.
Dow is offering great career opportunities in a global and international environment.
The department that will welcome you is the Mobility and Transportation Electronics Technical Service & Development. This technical department supports technical requests and future developments of silicone materials that will be used in the Automotive industry from Tier 1 and OEMs customers. The M&T Electronics TS&D team works to translate the material formulations into key properties for the customers.
Project description:
Due to the automotive electrification, the need of silicone materials for battery fire protection is increasing. Therefore, to support the automotive market, some fundamental learning about the impact of alcohols on the properties of silicone foams will help to differentiate Dow’s products from other technologies/competitors.
This work will investigate the impact of alcohols (e.g. propanol, butanol, pentanol, hexanol, benzyl alcohol…etc) on the properties of silicone foams (e.g. viscosity, time-dependent curing profile, density, cell structure, hardness, compression characteristic, fire resistance).
Responsibilities:
- Prepare the silicone foams with different alcohols
- Measure the properties of silicone foams (e.g. viscosity, time-dependent curing profile, density, cell structure, hardness, compression characteristic, fire resistance)
- Design of Experiment DoE for determining the suitable dosage of alcohols in silicone foams
- Documentation and analysis of the obtained results
Qualifications:
- You are currently studying for a master’s degree or equivalent in material science, polymer chemistry, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, applied chemistry
- You have a good working knowledge of English. Knowledge of German will be a plus.
- You are comfortable with basics of Organic Chemistry and Physics.
