Your working environment

At MAN Truck & Bus, we are part of a strong international team and one of Europe's leading commercial vehicle manufacturers and providers of transportation solutions. Together with the Scania, Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus, Navistar and RIO brands, we are part of the TRATON GROUP.
As part of this group, we face major challenges: Our vehicles are becoming increasingly autonomous and connected in order to reduce emissions on the road. We are working on sustainable solutions for this. A career at MAN Truck & Bus offers countless opportunities to participate in this change. Putting the customer first, respect, team spirit, responsibility and avoiding waste - these are the corporate values we live by at MAN.

Pull together with us. As part of our global team of over 36,000 employees, you will join us in turning visions of the future into reality.
We see the individuality of our employees as a strength and welcome diverse applications from people with different backgrounds. If you need support during your application, please contact us.

At MAN Truck & Bus, we are trailblazers in the world of commercial vehicle manufacturing and cutting-edge transport solutions. Our Engineering Electronics unit is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of automation systems and forging innovative pathways in autonomous driving. We pride ourselves on developing, researching, and seamlessly integrating the core components of autonomous driving and their software into series production, all while collaborating with both internal and external partners.

Are you ready to be at the forefront of autonomous driving technology? We are seeking a passionate and driven master's thesis candidate to join our dynamic team. As an essential contributor, you will delve into the world of ego motion estimation, a critical component in pinpointing the exact position and orientation of various vehicle components in autonomous driving, including the chassis, cabin, and trailer. Achieving this precise estimation relies on a myriad of sensors, such as IMUs (Inertial Measurement Units), GPS, wheel speed sensors, and chassis lift sensors. Your mission? To master the art of filtering and fusion techniques, providing accurate and reliable pose information that drives autonomous vehicles forward.

Thesis Objectives:

In this master's thesis, you will embark on a journey of exploration and innovation, focusing on deriving the pose of cabin and trailer components of autonomous trucks. Your tasks encompass a holistic research and implementation process, ultimately leading to the integration and real-world testing of the most promising ego motion estimation algorithms. Here are your primary responsibilities:

Thesis Tasks:

  • Trailblazing Research: Dive into the latest ego motion estimation methods and technology, gaining a deep understanding of the industry's forefront.
  • Innovation Unleashed: Investigate ego motion estimation techniques for cabins and trailers, challenging the limits of what's possible.
  • Simulate and Validate: Develop and rigorously test your algorithms in an advanced simulated environment, leveraging high-performance computing.
  • Road-Ready Integration: Implement the most promising algorithms in our fleet of autonomous trucks, propelling autonomous driving into the future.

Knowledge Sharing: Summarize your work in a comprehensive report and present your results to the world

  • Educational Background: Enrolled in or holding a degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field, and a passion for pushing the envelope of autonomous driving.
  • Technical Prowess: Proficiency in ego motion estimation, vehicle dynamics (including the single-track model), sensor fusion, and Kalman filtering techniques is a significant advantage.
  • Coding Mastery: Excellent skills in MATLAB/Simulink are required, with a strong grasp of C++ as a valuable asset.
  • Language Skills: Proficiency in German and/or English is essential for effective communication in our diverse team.
  • Independence & Reliability: We value self-motivated and reliable individuals who can lead innovation independently.

Join us at the forefront of autonomous driving technology and be part of a transformational journey that will shape the future of transportation. We offer the possibility of a three-month pre-study internship and flexible work periods that align with your university's requirements and guidelines. If you're interested in this opportunity, don't hesitate to mention your interest in a pre-study internship, desired employment date, and planned work duration in your cover letter. We look forward to welcoming you to our team as we shape the future of autonomous driving together.
