Internship in Risk Strategy & Validation from October 2024

The Risk Steering & Analytics department in the Mercedes-Benz Bank Risk division is the Center of Risk Competence, which uses innovative methods, models and technologies to efficiently manage risks and automate processes. In this way, we inspire our internal and external customers and create transparency both for the company and for banking supervision.

During an internship in the Risk Strategy & Validation team, you can expect interesting insights into the subject areas of risk management. The topics range from the modeling of cross-risk-type stress testing, equity management, model validation of the risk models used to the definition of the risk strategy and the portfolio-based risk management derived from it.

As part of our team, you will be able to expand your specialist knowledge and apply it in practice. For us, joint team events are just as much a part of the job as full commitment to our specialist tasks. The start date can be adjusted if necessary. You can carry out your work on site in Stuttgart or remotely by arrangement. The standard industry internship remuneration is also part of our benefits. Following the 6-month internship, it is possible to work as a student trainee.

Depending on your profile and interests, the focus of the internship can be on overall bank management or validation.

Your tasks will include

• Collaboration in the new and further development of risk management processes and methods

• Creation of decision-making and presentation documents for management using MS PowerPoint

• Conception and creation of various risk reporting dashboards with Microsoft Power BI

• Insight into the methods for quantifying economic capital requirements

• Preparation, technical interpretation and presentation of your results in the team

• Participation in our regular internal specialist courses on risk models and risk parameters as well as the key figures calculated with them. In addition, we also offer training in programming languages

With a focus on overall bank management, a stronger operational focus is necessary and your tasks will relate to topics such as

• Managing risks and opportunities
• Supporting the risk strategy process (e.g. risk inventory incl. ESG, capital planning, further development of the risk strategy)
• Collaboration in the modeling of cross-risk-type stress testing
• Reporting (e.g. on risk-bearing capacity, overall risk report or regulatory reports)
• Further development of processes, e.g. due to regulatory changes

With a focus on the topic of validation, you will focus more on the financial mathematical context and provide support with tasks such as

• Carrying out model validation for the risk models used
• Participation in the preparation of data and portfolio analyses (data science & data analytics) using statistical methods with access to large and heterogeneous data volumes of Mercedes-Benz Bank (big data)
• Carrying out data preparation and statistical evaluations in Microsoft Excel as well as the introduction and application of static analysis software (Python, R, SAS)

• Degree in financial mathematics, mathematics, business mathematics, statistics, natural sciences, economics, econometrics, economics, physics, business informatics, data science, industrial engineering or a comparable course of study
• Business fluent German and good written and spoken English skills
• Confident handling of MS Office
• Commitment and reliability, strong communication and organizational skills
• High degree of independence, personal responsibility, teamwork and cooperation skills
• With a focus on validation, additional basic knowledge of programming (e.g. R, Python, SAS, SQL or Java)
