In Group Research & Mercedes-Benz Cars Development (RD), we are shaping the automobile generations of the future. We use efficient development processes to develop innovative products of the highest quality. We are already working on vehicles today that will secure our technological leadership in the future.

The "Body-in-White Engineering, Material, Hardware & Tolerance" department is responsible for forming technology and the manufacturability of individual parts in the body-in-white, from pre-development to series production. By providing technological advice to the engineers responsible for design, we have a direct and early influence on the maturity of the products in the development process. Our remit also includes the provision of body-in-white prototypes for series projects in the various development phases as well as the associated responsibility for budget and quality.

During these phases, the "Body-in-White Development Technology Center" team ensures digital manufacturability in hardware and supplies the internal start-up factory with prototype components (PT parts) for the body-in-white structure. Our in-house production focuses on both cold and hot forming of high-strength and ultra-high-strength steels and aluminum alloys. The development technology center is responsible for tool production, forming, laser trimming, small parts production and quality assurance for in-house production and external procurement.

As a working student, you will support the team in the validation of steels and technologies for cold and hot forming, for example by analyzing the properties of partially press-hardened components.

These are some of the challenges you will face

  • Planning and systematic execution of parameter studies in the field of partial press hardening (tailored tempering)
  • Planning and carrying out investigations in the field of cold forming
  • Carrying out tests for mechanical material characterization
  • Carrying out and evaluating sheet metal forming simulations
  • Preparation and elaboration of the collected data and documentation of the results
Qualifikationen
  • Degree in mechanical engineering or a comparable course of study
  • Confident written and spoken German and English skills
  • Confident handling of MS Office
  • Commitment and ability to work in a team
  • Analytical mindset and strategic way of working
  • Preferably practical experience in the field of sheet metal forming, sheet metal forming simulation and materials technology
