Working student position in the area of controlling logistics costs from November 2024

The "Controlling Freight & Central Functions" team is part of the central controlling department for logistics and technical services. As a team, we are responsible for planning, actual analysis and reporting on the costs of global transportation flows.

With over 7,000 employees worldwide, the Supply Chain Management Directorate is responsible for managing and optimizing the global logistics of Mercedes-Benz Cars. The center operates the supply chain for purchased parts and powertrains as a whole, from the place of final value creation to the place of installation, as well as for the worldwide transport of finished vehicles to the markets.

In addition to the detailed analysis for European locations, our controlling responsibility also includes the overall consolidation of the corresponding costs for the consolidated supply of our overseas plants (CKD and PbP) and our cooperation partners.

Ideally, you have some initial practical experience in controlling, finance or logistics and are looking for further experience in controlling and a new challenge? Are you interested in technical and project-related tasks in the field of controlling and in particular in optimizing data streams and reporting processes using modern tools?

Are you interested in working in an atmosphere of conflicting demands from the Management Board and daily support for the department in its practical work with financial systems?

Then we can offer you challenging and varied tasks and the opportunity to contribute and implement your ideas and develop personally in the process. As personal contact is important to us despite the possibility of working from home, you should be able to spend about half a day a week on site in Sindelfingen, preferably in the afternoon.

Depending on your personal aptitude and interests, your tasks may focus more on technical work in the controlling processes or the digital development of our tools:

Controlling:

• Support in the planning process (multi-year planning and forecasts during the year)
• Analyzing costs and preparing provisions as part of monthly and quarterly financial statements
• Preparation of target/actual comparisons and appealing cost reports for the specialist departments
• Creating management reports and templates
• Visualization of delivery and associated cost flows
• Project support, in particular for KPI-based modeling of budget planning as a basis for further automation

Digitization:

• Design of a continuous data flow based on SAP S4 Hana and SAP BI and with the use of Microsoft PowerQuery and similar data tools
• Design, implementation and operation of a Power BI-based information platform for the department with costs and key figures
• Replacement, conversion or redesign of existing Excel solutions to enable integration into the data flow
• Co-design of cost structuring in the SAP S4 Hana source system to further optimize and simplify data flows

• Degree in business informatics, industrial engineering, computer science, or with a focus on data processing and financial processes
• Confident handling of MS Office, in particular MS Excel and MS PowerPoint
• Experience in working with databases and/or MS Power-BI and Power-Query
• Confident communication in German or English, preferably in German and English
• Independent and reliable way of working, high level of commitment and good teamwork skills
• Analytical mindset and enjoy learning and continuous improvement
• Advanced knowledge and experience in working with SAP S4 Hana, SAP BI, Azure Cloud applications, as well as programming in R, Python, M, SQL or similar would be an added advantage
