Internship in the field of lightweight construction from October 2024

The Mercedes-Benz plant in Hamburg primarily manufactures axles and steering columns as well as vehicle structural components such as front-end carriers, cross members under the instrument panel and multifunctional recesses. In addition to the production of control elements using hybrid composite technology, the Hamburg plant also uses pioneering development and production technologies such as thermoplastic-based fiber composite technology, hydroforming, injection molding and e-mobility technologies. The further development of these technologies and the entire process chain from concept testing to series production takes place here in state-of-the-art production areas.

The internship in the field of lightweight construction includes the following activities:

• Planning test sequences and creating test orders
• Support in the implementation of screw-in and strength tests
• Mechanical post-processing of prototypes
• Measuring and visually inspecting prototypes, in particular screw bosses
• Comparison of the screwing curves with regard to the specification parameters to be adhered to
• Presentation and discussion of the test results among experts
• Participation in regular communication on the status of testing and development
• Insight into the injection molding and hydroforming system and the relevant field of activity

• Degree in mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, plastics engineering or a comparable course of study
• Confident written and spoken German and English skills
• Confident handling of MS Office
• Commitment and ability to work in a team
• Analytical mindset and strategic way of working
• Manual dexterity
