Thesis in the field of OBD coordination AMG from October 2024

In Group Research & Mercedes-Benz Cars Development (RD), we are shaping the automobile generations of the future, by which we mean innovative products of the highest quality and efficient development processes. We are already working today on vehicles that will secure the Mercedes-Benz Group's technological leadership in the future.

Our team works across all projects on the topic of on-board diagnostics (OBD) for Mercedes and Mercedes-AMG engines, both highly emotional conventional drives and performance hybrids. In particular, we are responsible for the functions of the OBD fault memory and Generic Scan Tool communication. We also coordinate OBD development and validation across projects in collaboration with the relevant specialist departments and ensure the highest possible quality of diagnostic functions in future products.

We also provide support in the validation and validation of on-board diagnostics (OBD) within the Mercedes-Benz operating system (MB.OS).

Your master's thesis with us will deal with the conceptual design of an OBD function validation of the MB.OS basic software in a virtual test environment.

Your tasks will include

• Comprehensive literature research on the state of the art
• Creation of a strategy for virtual OBD validation using HIL, for example
• Elaboration of the concept
• Operational implementation of the concept

The final topic will be determined in consultation with the university, you and us.

• Degree in mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, mechatronics, control engineering, environmental engineering, process engineering, chemical engineering or a comparable course of study with a very good degree
• Very good technical understanding
• Knowledge of on-board diagnostics and HIL testing is advantageous
• Good knowledge of powertrain development and the interaction of mechatronic systems in automobiles is a plus
• Analytical, strategic and innovative thinking skills
• High level of initiative and ability to work in a team
• Enjoy questioning and improving existing systems from different perspectives
• Affinity for programming in e.g. Python or other programming languages
• Business fluent in German and English
