Internship in Body-in-White Planning from October 2024

Mercedes-Benz Group AG is one of the most successful automotive companies in the world. With Mercedes-Benz AG, the vehicle manufacturer is one of the largest suppliers of premium and luxury cars and vans.

Our Body-in-White Clamping and Fixturing Concept team is a cross-sectional function of Body-in-White planning and is responsible for the creation of joining sequences and fixture concepts from individual parts to complete bodies. In the course of Industry 4.0 and digital transformation, a web-based tool for automated joining sequence creation was developed, which is now to be optimized. We are looking for support for this. The tool is used for planning all Mercedes-Benz model series worldwide.

Your mission:

As an intern, you will support the Production Planning Body-in-White team in the further development of our innovative joining sequence tool, which optimizes planning processes with the help of machine learning. You will gain insight into the interface between state-of-the-art technology and high-quality vehicle production and contribute to improving the efficiency, quality and intelligence of our planning processes.

Your tasks:

• Support in the development and implementation of a new planning approach including machine learning to optimize the creation of joining sequences
• Assistance in the design and evaluation of alternative solutions to improve the joining sequence tool
• Collaboration in an interdisciplinary team of the clamping and fixing concept together with IT

• Degree in mechanical engineering, engineering sciences, computer science or a comparable course of study
• Initial knowledge of machine learning and data analysis is an advantage
• Sound basic knowledge of production planning, software development and programming, e.g. with Python
• Good written and spoken German and English skills
• Interest in body-in-white planning processes
• Analytical thinking and a structured way of working
• Team spirit, communication skills and initiative
