Thesis in the field of reliability from October 2024

The best or nothing! Reliability is crucial for the development of a new Mercedes-Benz model.

At the Untertürkheim plant, we develop & build what drives the cars forward: Electric drives, high-voltage batteries, engines & transmissions.

Within quality management, the reliability of new drive projects is analyzed. During the development process, we lay the foundation for reliable and high-quality drives for our customers.

Quality measures for products and processes are agreed at the start of development. We use statistical methods to calculate the assured reliability from the test data. Proof that the new drives are more reliable than their predecessors is required by the project management for quality approval.

Experience from previous projects can be used to evaluate the increase in reliability. The aim of the work is to develop a new methodological approach for evaluating reliability that can be applied to all drive types and replaces the previous method.

You will face these challenges:

• Literature research
• Identification of different calculation models
• Evaluation and selection of a suitable model
• Further development of the selected approach
• Validation using real project data

The final topic is determined in consultation with the university, you and us. We are also flexible regarding the exact start date. A start in October/November of this year would be desirable.

• Degree in engineering/computer science/mathematics or a comparable course of study
• Knowledge of vehicle technology desirable
• Interest in the product development of powertrain units & reliability technology
• Understanding of technical interrelationships
• Sound knowledge of MS Office, especially Excel, Word & PowerPoint
• Structured & methodical way of working
• Team player, appreciative & enthusiastic
• Self-motivation, initiative & communication skills
