Doctoral Student/Ph.D. Candidate (m/f/d) - Cancer therapy-induced alterations of mitotic bookmarking

The Robert Bosch Center for Tumor Diseases (RBCT) is a newly founded translational cancer research institute located on the Robert Bosch Health Campus in Stuttgart, Germany in direct proximity to the Robert Bosch Hospital (RBK) and the Institute for Clinical Pharmacology (IKP). As a part of the National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT) Southwest and the Comprehensive Cancer Center Tübingen-Stuttgart, the RBCT is dedicated to innovative cancer research and the development of new treatment strategies.

Our lab is looking for a motivated PhD student (m/f/d) to elucidate the impact of cancer therapy on mitotic bookmarking patterns and their contribution to therapy resistance development in breast cancer. Our main research goal is to identify these therapy-induced alterations and exploit them as novel therapeutic targets to improve treatment efficiency and cancer patient survival.

Job Description

• Participation in translation cancer research using state-of-the-art technologies, such as:
  • NGS approaches (Cut&Run/Tag, nascent RNA-seq and (single cell)-ATAC-seq)
  • CRISPR/Cas9 technology (gene knockout, knock-in of protein tags) for generation of model systems
  • High-throughput drug screening
  • Advanced cell culture experiments to examine the effects of drug treatment on cell identity propagation
  • Interpretation of NGS data
• Present results at institutional, national and international meetings
• Preparation of scientific publications

Qualifications

• Applicants must have completed a Master of Science in a related field for example Biology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Molecular Medicine or similar
• Experience with basic cell culture techniques and molecular biology methods (real-time PCR, Western blot, cloning, etc.)
• Prior knowledge of NGS data analysis is helpful, but not essential
• Strong interest in learning and gaining proficiency in bioinformatic analyses
• Independent, goal-oriented and structured way of working and ability to work in a team
• Confident written and spoken English skills
