The Werner Siemens Imaging Center (Department of Preclinical Imaging and Radiopharmacy, Director Prof. Bernd Pichler) at the University Hospital of the Eberhard Karls University Tübingen competes and collaborates on scientific top level in preclinical imaging with international research groups.

Research focus:

Immune responses against tumor cells involve a complex interplay of various lymphoid and myeloid immune cells. Molecular imaging can be used to non-invasively track the distribution of distinct immune cell populations throughout the body, especially within the tumor microenvironment and lymphoid organs. In this project, newly developed immune cell tracers will be characterized and applied in various tumor mouse models to monitor the migration dynamics and activation patterns of different immune cell populations during immunotherapy. Advanced image analysis techniques will be developed to quantitatively assess the spatial and temporal in vivo uptake patterns, which will be correlated with ex vivo multiplexed immunofluorescence microscopy, as well as flow and mass cytometry. Additionally, the PhD student will contribute to a clinical study and perform correlative analyses on human tissue samples to support the clinical translation of the newly developed tracer candidates.

Your qualifications:

We are looking for enthusiastic and highly motivated candidates, eager to answer highly relevant biomedical questions and to evolve in a highly interdisciplinary environment with biologists, chemists, physicists, and physicians notably using state of the art imaging techniques. The candidate should ideally possess scientific expertise in immunology, molecular biology/medicine, or biochemistry demonstrated by a relevant Master of Science in the field and a keen interest to dive into preclinical imaging sciences. Knowledge of tumor immunology and working with small animals, especially in vivo tumor models, are considered beneficial. As the student will participate in international conferences, fluency in English is a requirement. Previous experience with molecular and cell biology techniques (e.g. cell culture, flow cytometry, immunofluorescence microscopy) is essential. The successful candidate can grow in a lively and interactive working atmosphere within a well-connected network of PhD students and scientists in the dynamic city of Tübingen.

Benefits:

  • Vibrant and international research environment
  • Efficient supervision and mentoring program
  • Ability to gain knowledge in novel technologies and soft skills
We offer remuneration in accordance with TV-L (collective wage agreement for the Public Service of the German Federal States),
severely handicapped persons with equal qualifications are given preferential consideration.
Interview expenses are not covered.
Please note the applicable vaccination regulations.
