We, the BMW Group, offer you an interesting and varied Internship Application of Model Order Reduction to FiniteElement-Simulations with Human Body Models. Our team “Virtualization in Passive Safety” is developing computational methods and finite element simulations to improve the crashworthiness of vehicles by optimizing structural and restraint system components.

What awaits you?

  • In your internshipn you are in a diverse team of developers as well as PhD candidates.
  • One of your main tasks will be the implementation and enhance multiple approaches of Dimensional-Reduction-Methods (SVD, AutoEncoders, kernelPCA, etc.) in combination with multiple regression models (Linear Regression, Kriging, Neural Networks) with regards to high-order Finite-Element-Simulations with Human-Body-Models like THUMS. 
  • You support in the pre- and post-processing of finite-element-simulations with Human-Body-Models by using the multiplicity of python libraries and jupyter notebook scripts. 

What should you bring along? 

  • Master student in Mathematics, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering in the final year.
  • Knowledge in mathematical statistics, structural mechanics (FE), deep learning/machine learning/artificial intelligence is a mandatory requirement.
  • Experience in working with Python (keras, tensorflow, numpy, ..) or other programming languages is necessary.
  • Interest to work in the field of two current state-of-the-art research and industrial subjects: Human Body Model Simulations and Deep Learning/AI/Model-Order-Reduction. 
  • Analytical and strategic thinking.
  • Teamwork and communication skills.
