The interdisciplinary Research Training Group (RTG) “Emotional Learning and Memory” – composed of cognitive and clinical psychologists, neuroscientists and psychiatrists – aims to elucidate the mechanisms involved in emotion-related alterations of learning and memory in health and disease and to train a new generation of scientists that is ideally equipped to perform research at the intersection of basic science and clinical research, thus bridging basic and clinical research on emotional learning and memory and, ultimately, paving the way to developing new intervention approaches for emotional memory-related mental disorders. PhD students in this RTG will work on interdisciplinary research projects that combine a broad range of different methods, ranging from fMRI, EEG, MEG, and pharmacological interventions to cognitive modelling, psychophysiology and ecological momentary assessments. Your responsibilities
Active participation in a structured graduate program.
Duties include academic services in the project named above. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications.
The DFG-funded Research Training Group (RTG) “Emotional Learning and Memory”, located at the University of Hamburg and the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf, is inviting young scientists of exceptional talent to apply for PhD positions at the intersection of Psychology, Neuroscience, and Psychiatry.
The training group offers an excellent infrastructure for training and research by internationally recognized scientists with state-of-the-art technologies. The program is complemented by specifically tailored seminars, courses, hands-on workshops, writing and presentation training as well as practical career development opportunities. Further, the research and teaching program is implemented in close collaboration with researchers from the Donders Institute of Brain, Cognition and Behaviour (Nijmegen, The Netherlands) and includes opportunities for international research stays

Your profile
A university degree in the field(s) of Psychology, Medicine, Neuroscience, Biology or a related discipline.
General requirements:
- enthusiasm for interdisciplinary research
- interest in the integration of basic science and clinical research
- excellent English communication skills
- ability to work in a team
Specific requirements:
- excellent methodological skills and knowledge of statistics
- knowledge and experience in experimental work and neuroscientific methods
- openness to learn new techniques
- programming skills in R, MATLAB or Phython are advantageous
