In the Jena Research Center – Advanced Optics Lab we are now looking for a:

PhD Student in Camera Optical Design Research (m/f/d)

Main Responsibilities

• Perform research and design work in mobile phone imaging lenses and new optical architectures:
  • Optical design of fixed focal lens, zoom lens, freeform optics, etc
  • Tolerance analysis and straylight analysis
  • Alignment with cross-functional team on mechanical design, actuation scheme, etc.
  • Support fabrication and characterization of the optics
    
• Perform literature analysis and technical insight to identify the challenge and future trend of camera optical modeling.
• Proposing new concepts and ideas for lenses and drafting patents
• Networking with industry and academia experts and technology scouting

Your areas of expertise

• Master in optics, optoelectronics, physics, or other related discipline.
• Strong theoretical knowledge in geometrical, diffractive and/or physical optics. Applicants with hands-on experience are preferred.
• Experience on optical design and simulation software like Zemax, LightTools, CodeV, Comsol, FDTD, GSolver etc. Programming skills like Python and/or MATLAB are considered as a plus.
• High interesting and strong willingness to exploring innovative technologies, ability, and experience to independently search the literature and patent in optical area.
• Fluent in English (written and oral) and open to cooperation and to work in a team with multiple cultural backgrounds collaboration.
